Bethesda sues Warner Bros. over video game “blatant rip-off”

I’m a huge nerd. I love my video games.

Published is a copy of the lawsuit obtained by Polygon, filed by Bethesda Softworks against Warner Bros. Entertainment on 21 June in the Maryland US District Court.

It is alleged in the suit that Warner Bros’ recently released “Westworld” mobile game is a “blatant rip-off” (yes, those words are actually used in paragraph 7 the suit, because ‘Murica) of Bethesda’s “Fallout Shelter”.

At first blush, the 2 games do share very similar art styles and design. However, most damning, if proven, is the allegation that Warner Bros’ game uses the same code created for Fallout Shelter, evidenced by a bug in the code that appears to have been inadvertently incorporated into Warner Bros’ game.

Oof.

In the meantime, Bethesda is ramping up the marketing campaign for its new MMORPG IP “Fallout 76“, which is set to be released on 14 November 2018.
